Good Idea

This looks like it could be fun. Maybe it would even work! Woke up to like 2 inches of snow on the ground and all I can wear on my feet is flip flops. I miss my boots! And I'd like to see this little guy who seems to be reluctant to come. I know I wouldn't want to come out now, it's cold!

Hurry Up and Wait

I've gone to the hospital twice now with no success other than getting to watch a computer graph my contractions when I can clearly feel them. First time we went the contractions were 3 min apart. The second time we went, they were 1 min apart. (over the space of a couple of hours, and the hurt!) And they keep sending me home. I'm convinced this kid is going to do a sneak attack and just show up without any warning after crying wolf so many times. Argh. In other news, we had fun eating out with all my old roommates from freshman year and their respective partners.

Sunday Dinner

Mike made a very delicious Sunday dinner yesterday. Handmade pumpkin/butternut squash ravioli with a creamy tomato sauce. KrisAna made some stuffed peppers to go with the ravioli. Very good food. I'm so glad I have a husband who not only can cook, but enjoys it immensely.

Mike made a lovely "fruitamisu" based on the idea of a tiramisu but substituting a berry reduction for coffee.

It was very delicious. Yellow cake with a berry reduction covered in chocolate ganache and slivered almonds.

Look Who's Coming

Know what happens when I get put on bedrest? I blog! I don't think I have posted this picture yet, but here is the ultrasound picture of the little guy. It was taken at 20 weeks, and since I am close to 37 weeks (full term!), it is a little out of date. But no worries! He'll be a lot cuter once he is out. AND the pictures of him will be in Color!! I think he's really cute. Looks like he has the same face as Mike and my nose. All I know is that he will be the cutest kid ever, most likely because I will have a bias.

Yay yarn!!!

Yes, I took that picture of my yarn. Isn't it yummy?
In other news, we went on a yarn crawl with Tracy and her family on Thursday. I found some lovely bamboo/silk yarn as well as some beautiful malabrigo yarn.

We went to Three Wishes Fiber Arts (in South Jordan) and to Blazing Needles (in Salt Lake). Both places had such yummy yarn, I had to be careful not to buy too much. I was also really tempted to look at the spinning wheels because I had so much fun trying to spin fiber into yarn with Tracy's. I figure I have to wait a while and actually learn how to use a spinning wheel (take a class or something) before I can have one. That, and they're kinda pricey and I think that I will have my hands full enough when this little guy gets here (really soon!) Maybe in 10 years or so? I'll just have to save up all my Christmas' and Birthdays, then maybe I can have one.

This is the very lovely malabrigo. I'm hoping to make a lovely two-toned lacy type scarf with it. Still have to decide in I want to knit or crochet with it. If anyone has any awesome pattern ideas, let me know! It's worsted weight and I have about 200 yards of each color.

This is the super soft 70% bamboo 30% silk blend yarn. I have 90 meters of the blue and 180 meters of the green. I want to make a baby vest or sweater or jacket with this. It feels so very nice. Now I just need a pattern. I need to use 4.5mm (US 7) needles with it. I was looking for a V-neck pattern in a newborn or 0-3 months size. This will be very fun yarn to work with. SO much nicer than acrylic. Also more expensive, but when you spend time working on something, it's worth it to splurge a little sometimes, right?

I'm so very excited to use them once I find patterns for what I want to make with them. With the baby blanket finally finished ( I just need to block it and sew some lining in it), I need a new something to do.

Pumpkin Carving!

We decided to carve some pumpkins today! It's been a while since I've carved a pumpkin, usually too busy with school or work. Since now I do neither school nor work, something fun to do on Saturday! I helped Analey carve the little one and then Mike and I carved Luigi on the big one! Now here's hoping that the neighborhood kids leave them unsmashed at least until after Halloween . . . .

What can I say? We're silly people and enjoy the simple things in life. Except that right now Mike is studying Quantum Physics right now for FUN. He found some lectures online on Youtube from a professor at Stanford.  I love Mike's extreme thirst for knowledge. I think that it is a bit contagious. Mike has enjoyed teaching his math classes a little bit about physics and chemistry to help illustrate points to learning math. Who knew that physics could add some spice to math classes?

Kobe Sushi Challenge Videos

Kobe Sushi Challenge

The sushi challenge was fun to watch, but I officially don't think Mike will be doing any more food type challenges. They make you sign a waiver to not come and sue the restaurant if you so happen to up and die from eating their food. It all started out well and good but after both Caleb and Mike tried the hottest level of sushi, bad things started to happen.
This was the "qualifying round", a level 6 out of 7. The spicy helped add some good flavor to the otherwise ok sushi.
Look how happy they are!

Silly Mike, supposed to chew your food!
All gone food! This was from the level 6.5, the chili powder was death when inhaled.

And there is the empty glass of milk.

Sara did a very good description of the challenge which you can find here.

I'm going to try and get the videos that I shot up, if I can get the internet to cooperate with me.

California Baby Shower

This is long overdue for posting, I know. Tiarra and Jill threw me a totally awesome baby shower that I flew down to California for when Mike was in Washington back in August. The picnic theme was totally awesome.
I totally loved these little bird decorations that Tiarra had

I was so excited to see my friends from high school. Heather, Cris, and Melanie were really cool and showed up to play some fun baby games and such.
(from lft to rt) Cristina, Me, Melanie, Heather
We did some fun games like guess how big around my belly was, guess how many things in a jar, think up names to help me out for the new baby.

Melanie was spot on and guessed it exactly right!

Javier's mom was super nice and gave us a Babies R Us gift card, which I used right when I got home and bought baby's coming home outfit from the hospital with.

Jill, the  Babies R Us card, and I having a party
It was a really nice day, the only challenge that we had was the wind that tried to steal our papers, napkins, tablecloth, left kidney etc. I know that I had a ton of fun and am so grateful that after all these years that I still have these great friends, and wonderful family who cares about and wants to celebrate things in my life with me.

Yay Sisters!

Busy Busy Busy

We have been so very busy these past couple of weeks. We packed up and moved and are almost done now unpacking. Now my next project will be to wash all these baby clothes so that we will be totally ready for this little one to come in a couple of weeks. We have the carseat all installed and the bed set up. Now we just get to wait out the next 2 or so weeks, maybe more until we are done.

We're going up to Salt Lake tonight with Caleb and Sara to do the Man vs Food Kobe Sushi challenge. Well, Mike and Caleb (or just Caleb) are doing it. I'll sit and watch and cheer them on. Then I'll drive everyone home if the guys are in too much pain from the dissolving of their esophagi. Fun night!
